Mercedes A & B Servicing
It is vital that your Mercedes is serviced at regular intervals using the correct parts and service plan. After 2009, Mercedes introduced a maintenance schedule to advise which services your vehicle needs to have and what is involved for each one. Ensuring you get the correct maintenance performed on your vehicle, Mercedes have conveniently named them A and B services.
The best part is that your Mercedes vehicle will prompt you when you need to take yours in for a service and what type of service is due next.
Let’s explain the difference between Mercedes A and B services and how Garden City Garage can take care of all of your Mercedes service needs at a better-than-dealership price.

What is a Mercedes-Benz A Service?
The Mercedes A service is a smaller service that is required after the first year of ownership (or 10,000 miles) and then every 2 years thereafter. It consists of a series of inspections, checks and adjustments and covers the following:
What is included in an A service?
- Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement to ensure the engine components are lubricated and cooled efficiently.
- Oil Filter Replacement to prevent harmful particles entering and causing damage to the engine.
- Tyre Inflation Check & Correction to ensure optimum fuel efficiency, vehicle safety and prevent uneven tyre wear.
- Brake Component Inspection for safety critical functioning of the brakes and ensuring no component has worn out.
- Reset Maintenance Counter after the warning message on the dash appears, your service garage needs to reset this message and update service records on the Mercedes system or logbook.
What is a Mercedes-Benz B Service?
The Mercedes B service is more in depth and useful for older Mercedes models or those who drive further distances per year. B Services cost more than A services due to their extensive inspection and part replacement processes. B services occur roughly one year after A services and at two-year (or 20,000 mile) increments. This all depends on the amount of mileage you do per year, and your Mercedes vehicle will display a message on the dashboard telling you when a B service is due.
What is included in a B service?
- Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement to ensure the engine is lubricated and cooled efficiently.
- Oil Filter Replacement to prevent harmful particles entering and causing damage to the engine.
- Cabin Dust/Combination Filter Replacement to prevent outside pollen and dust from entering the cabin.
Levels of A and B servicing for Older Mercedes Models
Older model years of Mercedes have more specific A and B services that users may be notified about. A warning message such as A7 service or B4 service may appear on the dashboard. These services require the normal A or B service but with additional servicing of certain components. Here is a breakdown of what they mean:
- A0 or B0 Service – Sunroof cleaning and lubrication, with spark plug renewal for certain models.
- A1 or B1 Service – Brake fluid replacement
- A2 or B2 Service – Brake fluid replacement and sunroof cleaning and lubrication
- A3 or B3 Service – Air filter replacement and spark plug renewal
- A4 or B4 service – Air filter replacement, spark plug renewal, and sunroof cleaning and lubrication
- A5 or B5 Service – Air filter replacement, spark plug renewal, brake fluid replacement
- A6 or B6 Service – Air filter replacement, spark plug renewal, brake fluid replacement and sunroof cleaning and lubrication
- A7 or B7 Service – Automatic transmission oil replacement and transmission filter replacement.
- A8 or B8 Service – Automatic transmission oil replacement, transmission filter replacement and sunroof cleaning and lubrication.
- A9 or B9 Service – Automatic transmission oil replacement, transmission filter replacement and brake fluid replacement.
How Do I know when my Mercedes needs a service?
A message will display on your dashboard, warning you how long until your next service is due. If this doesn’t appear, you can find it within your vehicle settings.
Within your Mercedes dashboard screen, scroll through and find the service menu. From here, find the ASSYST PLUS feature and enter it. A dashboard message will display and inform you which service and how many days until your next service is due.

It is a good job our technicians are very thorough when it comes to customer safety – our Mercedes service specialist found uneven brake wear. This Mercedes C-Class was in urgent need of pad & disc replacement as well as a wheel alignment. Thankfully we caught it before a serious accident occurred.
After consulting the customer, our technician expertly replaced the brake pads and discs, ensuring even brake pressure, and performed the wheel alignment. To be 100% sure of a satisfied customer he inspected the suspension components to ensure there was no damage.
Our technician then topped up the air in the tyres to the recommended level, performed the oil and filter changes, reset the maintenance counter. Before inserting the new air filter and updating the service records.
We make sure every job follows manufacturer guidelines and specifications to ensure that the vehicle drives and performs as the manufacturer intended. Our customer service is also top notch, and our online reviews pay testimony to this. Treating each and every customer and task in the same friendly and efficient manner.
