Mercedes Multiple Warning Messages
Driving a Mercedes is a luxurious experience. You get excellent performance, safety and reliability. The last thing you’d expect is a fault to emerge, causing your car to underperform and lose its premium feel.
But as with all vehicles, these kinds of things can happen.
Now, imagine facing not just one but three issues with your Mercedes – it’s a nightmare scenario.
This is what happened to a recent client. They brought their Mercedes C Class to Garden City Garage with several problems:
- The washers weren’t working properly
- The AdBlue warning light had been on for weeks
- And the engine management light was also illuminated
Our Mercedes experts used their experience and technical expertise to solve the problems during the first visit.
Keep reading to uncover how our 15-step diagnostic process helped save the day.
What we found
During the initial inspection, it was evident that the C Class had several issues needing attention.
We first noticed the AdBlue warning light, which also displayed the message “100 Miles To No Restart.” This highlighted an issue that needed to be addressed immediately. The client was fortunate to bring their vehicle to us when they did; waiting another week could have rendered it inoperable.
Addressing the engine management light, which was also present, required a thorough inspection to determine the underlying cause and the same approach was necessary for the malfunctioning washers.
Fortunately, our Mercedes specialists had seen these issues before and were confident that they could resolve them quickly.
Our experts decided they should inspect the Mercedes’ technical information for any clues as to what was causing the vehicle’s issues.
As your local independent Mercedes specialist, we have access to the same technical information as the main Mercedes dealership, allowing us to offer dealership-level servicing at better value.
The Diagnosis
Before consulting the Mercedes technical information, our specialists conducted a diagnostic evaluation to identify the fault codes present.
Five fault codes were detected:
- P13E400: Limited remaining driving distance due to a malfunction in the AdBlue system.
- P229F8S: NOx sensor 2 (cylinder bank 1) malfunctions with a signal above the permissible limit.
- P2BA98S: Emission limit for NOx concentration exceeded due to low AdBlue quality, with a signal above the permissible value.
- P13DF09: Component fault in the AdBlue system.
- 0181E64: Sensor malfunction for the engine hood, with an implausible signal.
While these codes might seem like a random collection of numbers and letters, they guide our Mercedes specialists towards the underlying issues.
Before addressing each problem, our experts devise a systematic plan to identify the cause of each fault code.
At Garden City Garage, our team use an in-depth 15-step diagnostic process to resolve all issues during your first visit, saving you time, stress, and money on repeat repairs.
Once they understood the faults present in the Mercedes, our specialists began a deeper inspection, testing specific areas of the client’s C-Class.
Using the Mercedes dealer tool, they systematically tested each part of the AdBlue system to ensure no detail was overlooked.
Several tests were conducted, including:
- AdBlue pump tests
- Injector testing
- Leak checks
- SCR catalyst efficiency tests
- NOx sensor assessments
All tests came back clear except for the injector test, which indicated the client’s Mercedes had a blockage in the system.
After identifying the AdBlue fault, the Mercedes washers were checked, revealing a blockage in the pump’s filter.
Fixing the Mercedes C Class
After our experts identified the issues causing the fault codes, we informed the client of our findings. Together, we discussed the faults and our recommended solutions.
At Garden City Garage, you’re always informed and in control. We only start working on your Mercedes once you give us the go-ahead, keeping you in complete control throughout the process.
The client approved our plan, and our Mercedes experts began their work.
To address the AdBlue system, we carefully cleaned the injector using the correct methods, ensuring no damage to the components. Our technicians are experienced experts and can handle this delicate cleaning procedure and perform the task without any issues.
After cleaning, we tested the spray pattern and quality, which returned optimal results.
To ensure there were no other issues and to resolve the engine management light, the Mercedes C Class received a software update for the AdBlue system.
With the AdBlue system restored to peak condition, we moved on to the washer blockage.
The Mercedes washer pump filter was removed, cleaned, refitted and filled with fresh water. This task was more straightforward than the previous issue but still required expert hands to avoid any damage to the components.
Once all of the vehicle’s faults were addressed, a final diagnostic test confirmed that all fault codes had been resolved.
Our client’s Mercedes C Class was back in complete working order.
The client was pleased to have their vehicle back with no warning messages on the dashboard and functioning washers. They were impressed to have their vehicle back so quickly.
As we’re your local independent Mercedes specialist, we generally have a faster turnaround than the main Mercedes dealerships. This allows us to solve your vehicle’s issues quickly, saving you time and money.
The client drove away with full confidence, knowing their Mercedes was back in a roadworthy condition.
