Mercedes AdBlue System Error
If you own and drive a Mercedes GLC, you’ll know what luxury, class, and reliability mean. If you own a Mercedes SUV, you will also appreciate the importance of using a Mercedes expert to maintain and service your GLC regularly.
Finding a garage with excellent value for money, a speedy diagnosis, and quality service and repairs is not always easy. Thankfully, our Garden City Garage team is here to help!
Check out our latest blog to learn more about the issue one of our clients faced with their Mercedes GLC. They came to Garden City Garage complaining about an AdBlue issue and multiple warning lights on the dashboard of their SUV.
One of our expert Mercedes technicians listened to the client’s detailed feedback before starting the investigation on the Mercedes GLC.
Here’s how our expert technician at Garden City Garage solved the problem!

Identified Faults
The first task for our technician was to verify the customer’s complaints and ensure that the issue was addressed correctly, as the problem often lies in a different area than the client reports.
Our Mercedes technician visually inspected the vehicle, looking underneath, inside the engine compartment, and around the AdBlue container. Since there were no leaks in the system, the problem lay elsewhere.
Next, our technician looked at the warnings in the dash and found some troubling information. Essentially, the vehicle’s computer could not read the AdBlue fluid level, which could lead to future problems.
As a result, the client’s Mercedes needed some overdue maintenance and repairs. However, before any of that, our technician had to begin the 15-step diagnostic process. This method is used at Garden City Garage to ensure no stone is left unturned and that the entire problem is solved in one go.
Diagnostic Procedure
Our Mercedes technicians use the in-depth diagnostic process to find the root cause of the problem and apply a solution quickly. Plus, the 15 steps ensure we don’t miss anything during the diagnosis. Our technicians always find the problem, and no issue goes unnoticed!
Our technician followed the same routine as they moved to the full vehicle software evaluation. Our expert used the Mercedes Manufacturer software called Xentry (the same technology used by Mercedes Benz dealers) to find the relevant fault codes affecting the AdBlue system. Here’s what they found:
- P246309 – Component fault, diesel or gasoline particulate filter soot content not ok
- P20F500 – The AdBlue consumption is too high
The fault codes confirmed that the AdBlue system malfunctioned and needed immediate attention. However, fault codes rarely provide detailed information. Basically, they give you an idea of what the problem is and where it is located. Afterwards, it is up to the technician to analyse and fix the problem. We are fortunate to have highly skilled Mercedes experts who can quickly solve issues like this.
So, after the software evaluation procedure was out of the way, our technician began to test the data coming in and going out of the AdBlue system. They were trying to ensure there were no leaks or electrical wiring issues with the component.
The live data was fine, and the Engine Control Unit (ECU) received uninterrupted AdBlue signals. Afterwards, our technician tested the fluid levels and quality of the AdBlue system.
Our Mercedes specialist caught the culprit in its tracks thanks to multiple tests. It turned out that the AdBlue fluid was overflowing from the container, making it difficult for the ECU to measure the quantity.
Had the AdBlue fluid been left like that, the Mercedes GLC could have developed a terminal problem. Luckily, our client quickly acted when they brought their vehicle to Garden City Garage.
The Problem and Its Solution
After our Mercedes specialist had discovered the issue, it was time to implement the solution. Our expert carefully drained the AdBlue fluid from its container to the optimal level without wasting any time. They then put the extra fluid aside to discard safely later.
Afterwards, our Mercedes technician used the dealer technology to adapt and test the AdBlue system. Our tests turned out to be fine, so all we had to do was clear the error codes from the system and try again.
Using the Xentry software, our Mercedes expert cleared previous codes and looked for new ones. Everything was fine except that the vehicle needed a software update. So, our technician got to work updating the Mercedes.
Not long after, our Mercedes expert took the GLC on a test drive to check its performance. As it turned out, everything worked fine, and there were no warning lights or messages on the dashboard. As a result, we returned the Mercedes GLC to the customer and handed over the keys.
