Mercedes C220 Adblue Fault
If you own a Mercedes C Class vehicle, you will know that these luxury vehicles have something special about them. However, just like all other vehicle makes and models, these cars require regular servicing and maintenance to make sure that they perform at their best.
When a client brought their Mercedes C220 to our Neath garage with a problem, our Mercedes specialist technicians began an investigation to diagnose the issue right away. At Garden City Garage we are dedicated to making sure our clients get the best from their vehicles, so we will always thoroughly investigate a problem to find the root cause of an issue in order to provide a reliable solution.
With our 15-step diagnostic process, we are able to confidently identify and resolve an issue, providing a first-time fix. As your local Mercedes garage, our team follows the manufacturer’s recommended guidelines to ensure your premium vehicle’s integrity is maintained.
Our client informed us that they had an Engine Management Light (EML) on their dashboard, which indicated that their Engine Control Unit (ECU) was malfunctioning. An AdBlue warning was also displayed.
In addition, according to the client, they had topped up AdBlue within the C220 but had overfilled it. Our client didn’t know, however, that overfilling your AdBlue system could cause further damage.
So, our client’s C220 was booked into the garage and work started with our 15-step diagnostic evaluation. Having examined the engine from all angles, we didn’t see anything immediately and obviously wrong, so the vehicle’s serial data was scanned.

The Diagnostic Evaluation
We accessed the serial data of the vehicle and discovered the following fault code:
- P140300 – The control unit AdBlue has a malfunction
Using the serial data, our Mercedes specialists accessed the AdBlue pump and began checking the wiring. When they discovered that no power was being sent to the AdBlue module, they started stripping back the wiring. Our team discovered that the main loom had rubbed completely through, causing some serious corrosion to the power wire. We then had to replace the wiring entirely and re-insulate it onsite.
While working on the AdBlue system, our technicians also discovered a problem with the level sensor. Our client had already told us that they had overfilled the system, which shouldn’t happen since the system uses ultrasonic sensors. We know from experience that an overfilled AdBlue system causes the ultrasonic sensor to be unable to detect the level, causing misinformation to be distributed throughout the vehicle.
After draining the AdBlue tank system, the tank was refilled to the proper level. Having replaced and refilled the AdBlue level at the correct level, we took the Mercedes for a road test and confirmed that the Engine Management Warning light had gone out and the Mercedes was now ready to drive once again.
