Range Rover Evoque – Harsh Gear Changes
Poor drivability and Range Rover are words you don’t usually hear together.
Yet, Mrs E’s Range Rover Evoque had a severe gear change issue, resulting in jerky gear changes and a poor driving experience.
It’s the last thing you want from a high-end vehicle, right?
To make matters worse, Mrs E had already been to TWO Range Rover specialists to solve the issue. But, neither garage could help.
Talk about a nightmare.
In a last-ditch attempt to solve the problem, Mrs E brought her vehicle to our Range Rover experts at Garden City Garage.
Luckily, our Range Rover specialists have decades of experience working with all Range Rover models and were confident they could help.
What We Found
During the initial assessment, our expert technicians test-drove the Evoque and confirmed the problems Mrs E experienced.
Gear changes were extremely harsh, making the experience uncomfortable and far from the smooth drive you’d expect from a Range Rover.
To make matters more challenging, there were no visual signs as to why the vehicle had these issues.
The Evoque clearly needed a deeper inspection to discover what was causing the gear change issue.
The Diagnosis
As there weren’t any visual clues, our expert Range Rover technicians performed a diagnostics test to see if any fault codes were present.
Unfortunately, the test didn’t return any codes to help us narrow down the search.
Usually, fault codes are like a map; they help our specialists identify the key issues with a vehicle.
While having a fault code to point them in the right direction would be nice, our specialists weren’t phased.
At Garden City Garage, we use a 15-step diagnostic process to identify the root cause of any issue.
The 15-step diagnostic process ensures every aspect of your vehicle is checked, allowing us to solve any problems during the first fix.
This is something other Range Rover garages don’t do. No wonder they couldn’t help Mrs E with her gear problems.
Part of the diagnostic process includes looking at the Range Rover manufacturer information. As your local independent Range Rover specialist, we have access to the same technical information as the main dealerships.
Using the manufacturer information, our specialist noticed the Range Rover Evoque’s software wasn’t up to date.
Could this be the cause of Mrs E’s jerky gear changes? Our experts believed it could be the main culprit.
How We Fixed The Problem
As the Range Rover Evoque’s gearbox had outdated software, it needed updating before further checks or fixes could be made.
Thankfully, our Range Rover specialists have plenty of experience updating software and were confident they could get Mrs E’s Evoque back in complete working order in no time.
The vehicle’s gearbox and transfer box were updated with the latest software (as outlined in Land Rover’s technical bulletin). And the Evoque was put through comprehensive road testing.
During the road testing, Mrs E’s Range Rover Evoque ran like new with no jerkiness and smooth changing gears.
Mrs E was over the moon to have her vehicle back in full working condition, especially since Garden City Garage had solved an issue other garages couldn’t.
Not only did our experts fix her Evoque, but the work was completed in less time than the main Range Rover dealerships could do it. And for a fraction of the cost!
What’s not to like?
Mrs E drove out of our garage pleased and relieved that her Range Rover was back to its best.
If only Mrs E had brought her Range Rover Evoque to us the first time, she could have saved time, money, and stress.
Summary
Mrs E’s Range Rover Evoque had drivability issues causing harsh gear changes and an uncomfortable drive. She’d already visited two Range Rover garages, but they couldn’t determine the problem.
Luckily, Mrs E brought her vehicle to Garden City Garage.
Our Range Rover experts used their decades of experience and our 15-step diagnostic process to identify the root cause of the vehicle’s problem.
During the early inspections, no fault codes appeared, but our specialists did notice that the gearbox & transfer box required a software update.
Once the gearbox had the latest software update, our specialists took Mrs E’s vehicle on an extensive road test.
The Evoque no longer had harsh gear changes and was a pleasure to drive.
Mrs E was pleased to have her vehicle back in complete working condition and couldn’t believe she had it back a day after dropping it off. This was a far quicker turnaround than the main Range Rover dealership was able to provide.
Plus, she’d even saved money compared to the main dealership’s quote. It’s no wonder she left with a smile on her face.
