Range Rover Steering And Brakes Issues
Range Rover Sports are known for their incredible performance and reliability, right?
But what happens when this isn’t the case? Like all vehicles, they aren’t immune to problems. One of our most recent clients brought their vehicle to our Range Rover specialists at Garden City Garage with a steering and braking issue.
I think you’d agree that both of those systems are crucial for safety, so they need to be addressed quickly.
However, the client had already visited another garage two days before to have a new battery and alternator fitted, AND they’d even used a mobile mechanic who told them their ECU had failed and they needed to visit the main dealership.
Dreading the extortionate prices and long lead times, the client brought their Range Rover Sport to us at Garden City Garage.

What We Found
During the initial inspection, our Range Rover experts visually inspected the vehicle to confirm some of the issues. Two lights were lit up on the dashboard:
- ABS Gearbox Light
- Handbrake Light
As these are two crucial systems for safety and performance, our technicians took the vehicle for a test drive. During the test drive, the heavy steering and braking issues were obvious, so the car was brought back to the garage for a deeper inspection.
At Garden City Garage, our Range Rover specialists use decades of experience and our 15-step diagnostic process to get to the bottom of any issue your vehicle has. No stone is left unturned, ensuring you get a quality first-time fix.
You always save time, money, and stress with us.
Our expert technicians ran a diagnostic test to see if any fault codes were present, and what they found utterly shocked them.
The client’s Range Rover Sport had 72 faults present. (Yes, I really did say 72).
The issues were primarily associated with a short-to-ground fault.

The Diagnosis
As the main issue appeared to be electrical faults, our technicians performed live data testing and used the Range Rover Sport wiring diagrams to help narrow down the cause.
At Garden City Garage, we have access to the same level of technical information as the main Range Rover dealerships. This allows us to provide dealership-level care for better value.
After the live testing, a volt drop test was performed to quickly locate any areas causing resistance in the vehicle’s circuitry.
During the volt drop test, our Range Rover specialists found an issue with a splice joint in the wiring loom, pointing to this wiring fault causing all of the problems our client’s vehicle had.
The splice joint appears to have been poorly done (most likely in the Range Rover factory). While it’s not overly common, it can happen.
Our Range Rover experts knew they needed to solve the issue before it could cause any other problems with the client’s vehicle.
Fixing the Range Rover Sport
To ensure our client’s Range Rover Sport no longer suffered from the braking and steering issues, it was crucial to have the problem solved right away.
Our experts called the client to explain our findings and offer recommendations. The client agreed to the work, and our technicians got to work fixing the issue.
At Garden City Garage, we believe in honesty and transparency. You’re always kept in the loop, and we only begin working on your vehicle once you’ve given us the green light.
With the client’s approval, our specialists corrected the splice in the wiring loom and retested the vehicle to confirm the problem had been solved.
Thankfully, the vehicle’s dashboard lights had cleared, and the steering/braking issue was back in complete working condition.
Plus, the 72 fault codes were no longer present.
Once the Range Rover Sport was back in peak condition, we called the client, and they were pleased to have their vehicle back with all the faults finally resolved.
As your local independent Range Rover specialist, you will always get better value with us compared to the main dealerships. What more could you ask for?
